Ombre Rosse is a 1939 western film directed by John Ford.
Scripted by Dudley Nichols and adapting Ernest Haycox’s story The Stagecoach to Lordsburg (1937), it tells the journey of a motley group of stagecoach passengers through dangerous Apache territory. The film stars Claire Trevor and John Wayne, in the role that made him famous, and was the first of many Ford westerns shot in Monument Valley.
Premiered in Los Angeles on February 2, 1939 and released in the United States by United Artists on March 3, Red Shadows was recognized as a major work that transcends the western genre. In 1995 the film was deemed “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” by the US Library of Congress and selected for conservation in its National Film Registry.
