Before We Were Yours is a 2017 historical fiction novel by Lisa Wingate. It is based on the true story of the Tennessee Children’s Home Society, a Memphis-based adoption organization that was run by Georgia Tann from 1922 to 1950. Tann was a corrupt and unscrupulous woman who used her position to kidnap and sell poor children to wealthy families all over the country.
